Clinique Beyond Perfecting 2in1 Foundation and Concealer

My review of Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation and Concealer

Ive mentioned Clinique Beyond Perfecting a few times in my blog already, I thought it time I devoted some proper attention to it.

I had seen the advertising for it and I dutifully trotted to House of Fraser to have an investigate. As usual it took me a good 20mins of wandering about to get the saleswoman’s  attention. She was busy so she quickly colour matched me, I actually had to say to her “I look like ham!”- I did! She was annoyed but eventually we tried other shades until we figured out I’m the lightest warm shade- Alabaster. I’m not that fair, this product isn’t the one for really pale ladies, Clinique just doesn’t go light enough.

It comes in a glass container with a doe foot applicator, this is really handy for getting it where it’s needed. You can apply liberally as you would a normal foundation then dot it into blemishes as a concealer.

Beyond Perfecting is quite thick in texture and creamy. It blends well. When I first tried it  I took one look at myself and thought “Bugger! That’s £25 down the drain” it’s way too dark. But some how after a little while it seemed to blend itself in. This is what Clinique had to say about the matter-
“Skin breathes comfortably, colour stays true, even through sweat and humidity.Due to the rich pigment level that enhances this flawless coverage makeup, shades may appear deeper when first applied. Leave the foundation to settle just for a few minutes  this will allow the high pigment in the formula to adapt to your skin tone which is why you get such a flawless perfected finish”

Magic. And it does seem to work. The finish is demi matte. It doesn’t feel heavy and the coverage is good. It feels natural and not sticky. Theres that “my skin but better” feeling, after its had a chance to settle in.

You can see from the picture how it goes dark after blending. But that darkness does magically calm down after a bit.

It wears well. It doesn’t keep me matte all day. Not many products do, only L’Oreal Infallible Mattifying (review here), but that doesn’t feel as lightweight. Here’s a snap of me after wearing it for several hours-

Overview

  • Colour-might be too dark for the very pale
  • Finish-demi matte
  • Suits-dry or oily combination skin, which is most people
  • Coverage-medium to full

I find Clinique Beyond Perfecting an ideal day foundation, hides blemishes and dark spots without being heavy or cakey. On the downside that like Luke Skywalker, it is a bit on the dark side, and it has no spf (make sure you have some in your moisturiser or primer, girls and boys). I really like it- 8/10 from me!

You can get this product from Boots.com

Has anyone else tried Beyond Perfecting? How did it go?
