Colour Correction Part 1- Palette by Makeup Revolution

My Review of Makeup Revolutions Colour Correction Palette with Swatches

Do you colour correct? It’s a strange idea putting green on your face to cover red. Why would green be preferable? The technique has been around for a long time. I remember seeing a green Rimmel concealer when first started looking at makeup (that may have been some time ago).

Basically it involves using the colour wheel, you choose the shade opposite the shade your trying to conceal

Say I have blue toned skin under my eyes that I want to hide, I would put orange makeup on it. You use green to conceal red (blemishes and broken blood vessels) and purple to mask sallow skin and brighten.

It doesn’t leave your face looking green, orange and purple because you apply foundation over the top and somehow it blends in without  a trace.

It makes sense to have a few different shades if you’re going to colour correct properly so a palette seems like a good idea. The colour correction palettes I found on the UK high street came from Kiko, MUA and Makeup Revolution. I plumped for Makeup Revolution.

The packaging is good- a shiny black plastic case with a good sized mirror. It includes a good amount of 8 different shades-

Swatches
 Pink – Brightens

Lavender – neutralises yellow tones

Green – neutralises redness

Orange – neutralises blue tones

Peach – helps to balance out slight discolouration

White – adds natural highlight and brightens

Cream – neutralises purple & covers dark areas

Brown – balances ashiness in medium to dark skin tones

This is me after applying the creams where I thought appropriate- review-makeup-revolution-colour-correction-palette
Can you see anything? No? Me neither. I had lavender on my forehead, orange under my eyes and green by my nose.

I wasn’t amazed. To be honest when I saw the palette initially I feared the shades would be too light. They are too light, it’s too wishy washy to seriously block colour. It does brighten the complexion for sure but it’s not the wonder product I had hoped it would be.

So do I head back to the shops and try out Kiko or MUAs offerings? I think not, once bitten twice shy.  It could well be that soon other cosmetics companies will jump on this bandwagon, we shall see. I think I might have a solution of my own and I’ll tell all in tomorrow’s post.

Overview

Makeup Revolution colour correction palette has good packaging, a decent amount of product and a good shade range.

But it’s very pale, it may suit the pale of skin very well, for me it doesn’t quite cut the mustard. 4/10

Tune in tomorrow for the next instalment- Colour Correction 2

      1. If you like the Naked 3 palette by urban decay the redemption palette iconic 3 is an amazing dupe. I also love the salvation palette in what are you waiting for?

  1. Wow this is brilliant! I hadn’t heard of this colour correction. But I don’t wear make up very often. It makes perfect sense & you did a lovely job of it! Thanks so much for linking up with us! #bloggerclubuk
