Review|The Body Shop|New Lip and Cheek Stain

My Review of  Body Shop’s New Lip and Cheek Stain with pictures.

body-shop-cheek-and-lip-stain-natural-blush-productThe Body Shop took off big time in the 90s, mostly because of its ethical ideology. I used to spend hours on Saturday afternoons loitering in there and sniffing things. The scent you chose defined you as a person, were you a confident Dewberry sort or a ladylike White Musk or even a fun loving Fuzzy Peach type of girl?  We spent hours compiling wish lists- strawberry bubble bath, kiwi lip balm, soaps in the shape of animals, bath pearls (those were pretty horrible objects!), mango body butter. My husband just reminded me of banana shampoo, ew! Body Shop was the place to go when you were a teenager in the 90s, that and Athena where you could look at magic eye posters.body-shop-retro-kiwi-lip-balm-90s

Times have changed and a recent visit to the Body Shop revealed that they have got a bit more serious than fruity shampoo. There is still the same cruelty free, fair trade, sustainable message that originally made Body Shop famous. There is a specific focus on skincare.  I’ll have to investigate the skincare further at a later date because my attention was as usual diverted by makeup.

The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain

One of Body Shop’s signature makeup products back in the day was their lip and cheek stain. This has also had a revamp with new packaging and shades. There are 9 shades of red, pink and purple to chose from. I went for Bright Peony. It was difficult to pick one with such a bewildering array. It’s not something you can try out easily to check the shade on your face. All the colours looked nice. Dusky pink could worn well on a pale complexion.

Here are Body Shops words-

NEW Lip and Cheek Stain. Enriched with Community Trade honey and Community Trade aloe vera*. Our new Lip & Cheek Stains are lightweight, and inspired by nature’s garden of shades for lasting colour & moisture.

I do love a stain. Hasn’t everyone tried Benetint by Benefit? They stain the skin, so they last longer than powder or cream that can be rubbed off. You can use them on your lips and cheeks. Stains or tints are a quick way to bring colour to your face, in a lasting way without looking made up.

Bright peony is a bright cool pink

Application of cheek stain is always going to be tricky. You must move fast. I would advise applying the tiniest possible amount initially then blend like stink. You can always add more. If you do overdo the rosiness, just apply some foundation on top. Problem solved. In this photo I dabbed the Lip and Cheek Stain on top of my foundation-

It gives a delicate flush, you could use it to perk things up if you’re having a no makeup day. Or you could put a fair amount of the stain in before applying foundation, as I have done here-

Overview of Body Shop’s Lip and Cheek Stain

Pros-

  • Well priced at £8
  • Highly pigmented, a bottle will last ages
  • Long lasting
  • Versatile
  • A good variety of shades

Cons-

  • You have to be quick off the mark with blending.
  • If you have dry skin it may be attracted to any flaky skin. Exfoliating beforehand would help.

Lip and Cheek Stain by Body Shop is a fun little product, it’s going to be a feature of my makeup routine from now on 8/10

  1. That cheek color looks so lovely on you. If it lasts that long perhaps I’ll invest in it as I sometimes am too lazy to add blush at 5:00 am. I could just do it the night before! What foubdation do you have on in the second photo? It looks fantastic!

    1. Thanks Leanne, that was a whole heap of Vichy Dermablend. It’s great coverage but it looks natural too. I reckon if you put enough lip and cheek stain on it could last the week! 😄x
