Look Fantastic’s Healthy Skin Box for Oily/Blemish Prone Skin

My Review of LookFantastic.com’s Healthy Skin Box for Oily and blemish prone skin from the My Skin Solutions range.

look-fantastic-my-skin-solutions-healthy-skin-box-oily-blemish-prone-skin-packagingThis is such a good idea. Look Fantastic has launched the my skin solutions box, check out the Website. A pharmacist has put together 3 skincare beauty boxes that meet your individual skin needs. I got the Oily/Blemish prone box. Each box contains 6 products specifically tailored for your skin type. They cost £35 and delivery is free.

My Experience

I was really looking for a face wash when I was browsing on LookFantastic.com. But why just buy one face wash when you can get 5 other new things to try out (I’m a sucker for things like this). There are lots of companies that do monthly beauty boxes, while I really fancy getting one, it also seems like you would end up with drawers full of products that don’t suit. The Healthy Skin box is tailored to your skin type so you’re  less likely to end up with useless items.
It works like this- you go onto LookFantistic.com and pick your skin type and they send you 6 specially selected products. I think they could expand their range to include other skin issues and maybe devise a skin questionnaire to make it easier to categorise yourself. Hopefully that’s something they could consider, I really think they’re on to something with this. Look Fantastic also does a Normal/Combination (containing 2 cleansers, 2 masks and 2 moisturisers) and a Dry/Sensitive skin box (containing a cleanser, a mask, a face oil, a serum, an eye cream and a moisturiser). The Dry Skin Box, in particular, looks like a good selection.

I received my box a couple of days after ordering. It came in some lovely packaging, I felt like I had bought myself a lovely present.

The Products

The booklet suggests the ideal skin routine should include cleansing, toning, exfoliating and hydrating. Oddly though the box doesn’t contain a toner. It does contain a cleanser, a scrub, a serum, a moisturiser, an eye cream and a lip balm.

I’ve been using all the products for the past 2 weeks to see how they performed, generally if I don’t see anything happening pretty quickly I lose interest. Here’s how they performed-

  1. Decléor Aroma Cleanse 3 in 1 Hydra Radiance Smoothing and Cleansing Mouse- I wouldn’t describe it as a mousse. It’s a pleasant smelling gel/cream which foams up a treat and leaves my skin squeaky clean.
  2. Eucerin Dermo Purifyer Scrub- This is one of those scrubs that have little plastic balls that don’t do anything, But! It also contains lactic acid, an Alpha Hydroxy Acid or AHA which acts to gently peel away the dead skins and brighten the complexion. It certainly does brighten and I haven’t gone the other way and come over all dry. That happens quite a lot when using acne products.look-fantastic-my-skin-solutions-healthy-skin-box-oily-blemish-prone-skin-decleor-aromacleanse-eucerin-scrub
  3. Balance Me Congested Serum- This is a thin runny cream with a fresh scent of lemons. It’s packed with natural botanical anti inflammatory and antibacterial ingredients to soothe flared up skin. I’m going to rebuy this, it’s so refreshing.
  4. La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+– This is a popular treatment cream for acneic skin. It contains Zinc and Nicotinamide which are proven to be effective against acne. My skin absorbs it beautifully to feel lightly moisturised and matte. I don’t find I need a separate moisturiser over the top.look-fantastic-my-skin-solutions-healthy-skin-box-oily-blemish-prone-skin-effaclar-duo-balance-me-serum
  5. Nuxe Crème Prodigieuse Eye Cream– I used this for about a week until I started getting some spots on my upper cheeks. It could have been a coincidence, but I haven’t had anymore since I stopped using it.
  6. Skin Chemists Advanced Lip Nutrition Repair– An  effective unflavoured unscented balm based on Lanolin, Cacao Butter and Beeswax. My lips are very soft after using it, but it does seem like a slightly unnecessary addition. A toner might have made more sense?look-fantastic-my-skin-solutions-healthy-skin-box-oily-blemish-prone-skinchemists-lip-repair-nuxe-eye-cream

Overview of Oily skin Beauty Box

The 👎

So the eye cream broke me out. It must have been the eye cream, I don’t normally get zits under my eyes. It looked nasty. And they could have included a toner for more completeness.

The 👍

But apart from that, once I stopped using it and my eye area had calmed down my skin has been really pleased with this beauty box. My face feels smoother and looks brighter. My chin is the area that suffers the most from acne and that has been  much less bumpy.
I don’t know which product specifically is doing the biz, maybe it’s the combination, but I’m pleased to say that something is working in my favour. I really like the Effaclar Duo, it gives the perfect level of moisture. It feels like my skin drinks it up. The serum is lovely too, it’s not going to last long the way I’m slapping it on!

All in all I think these tailored Beauty Boxes are a good idea and mine has been a success (apart from the eye cream). £35 is a good price for 6 quality products delivered in a pretty box, the Effaclar Duo alone costs £15.

If you have problem skin check out LookFantistic.com’s healthy skin boxes, I’d love to know if the dry skin box is as good as it looks.

  1. Looks like a really good box! Agree with you that they should have included a toner though!! xx

  2. The products’ quality/experience is one thing- but the whole boxed set of all you need is an amazing idea! They should do it for make-up “looks” too! Great review!

  3. Eucerin is so good for the skin and I love all of these companies cropping up with assorted monthly samples. Birchbox is big here in the US.

  4. This box sounds perfect for my skin! I am so sick of breakouts and am constantly trying new things to rid myself of it! Thanks for the recommendation lovely lady!! xxx

  5. Oh this looks good, I might have to check them out. I have super sensitive but blemish prone skin. It’s a nightmare actually!! Something put together by pharmacists sounds brilliant. I suppose, if you try 5 products, there is a chance one won’t suit you, but I agree that the lip balm is a bit of an odd addition. Thanks for linking up! #bigpinklink
