  • Matte finish
  • Silicone based
  • 6 shades (that I could find available in U.K. Shops, I found 12 on an America website)

Here are the swatches of the shades available in the U.K.-

L’Oréal Infallible Total Cover Foundation- UK Shade Swatches
  • 9. Light Sand is a very fair warm shade
  • 10. Porcelain is a very fair cool tone
  • 12. Natural Rose is a fair cool
  • 21. Golden Sand is a medium warm tone
  • 24. Golden Beige is darker medium warm tone
  • 32. Amber is dark warm

I found the shade selection available a little stunted. The three fairest are very pale. I chose Natural Rose, but that still looks pretty pale on me. There isn’t much middle ground and only one shade for dark skin 😕. My skin is fair neutral and normally NW 20 ish in MAC. There are more photos below.

L’Oréal Infallible Total Cover Foundation Review

I bought my Total Cover from Superdrug mainly because I was tempted in by a 3for2 offer and a free L’Oréal blending sponge thrown in. I don’t need another blending sponge but that is no barrier to me being drawn in by the offer of a “free” one if I buy a bunch of other things. I also went for L’Oréal Infallible Matte Priner and L’Oréal Infallible Fixing Spray. All in all I spent £15   My thinking was that if I get the primer, long lasting foundation and fixing Spray that are designed to be worn together there might be a snowball’s chance in hell of my makeup lasting till lunchtime.

L’Oréal Infallible Total Cover Foundation Review

The L’Oréal Infallible Primer is a silicone mattifying primer that glides on easily and makes a smooth base for the foundation step. In general, I don’t really get primer, it doesn’t seem to have any effect on my chip like face.

L’Oréal Infallible Total Cover Foundation has a thick mousse like consistency. I found it blends well but dries pretty quickly so you need to get it down fast. I used the L’Oréal sponge, which was fine for creating a smooth finish. The sponge has a nice sharp edge to it for getting into crevices.

The coverage is full as promised, no complaints there. I have a couple of dark freckles which you could just about see. You can always pat on a bit more product where needed.

The finish is pretty matte. There was very little glow to my complexion after it had set. It’s maybe slightly less matte than L’Oréal Infallible Matte which is extremely matte- think chalk. Here is my post on L’Oréal Infallible Matte 24hr Foundation.

The wear is good, particularly when paired with the primer and fixing spray. My makeup is definitely present and correct at lunchtime. There is some wear on my oiliest face bits at the end of the day. Very oily girls won’t experience the full 24 hour wear promise.

I would compare L’Oréal Infallible Total Cover Foundation to Estée Lauder Doublewear. It’s more mattifying though and has a much more limited shade range. The shade range is where Total Cover falls down. Anyone but the very fair may well struggle.

The fixing spray seems helpful. I’m not sure about fixing spray as a concept. The ones I have seen have a lot of alcohol in them, which isn’t great for skin. The L’Oréal Infallible Fixing Spray has some mica particles in it- you really have to shake the bottle or you end up with little white spots on your face. It seems to help with the longevity of my makeup so I might use it for special occasions.

L’Oréal Infallible Total Cover Summary

Infallible Total Cover has a thick consistency but feels light and comfortable worn. It lasted well but seemed to settle into dry patches.

I liked Total Cover but I think it’s best suited to oily skin. The finish is so matte, it could well settle into dry patches. If you have oily skin and you can find a shade that matches L’Oréal Total Cover Foundation could be a goer.
