Makeup Revolution Soph X Eyeshadow Palette Review

I was lucky enough to receive a little box of Makeup Revolution goodies to show you. You can see in the picture I have the Soph X Ultra Eyeshadow Palette and also the stunningly packaged Makeup Revolution Rose Gold Chocolate Palette, liquid highlighter and Makeup Obsession Marble Contour and Light set. I think I’m going to split them up into separate reviews. I’ll try and bang them out (I blog at snails pace, spend way too long trying things out and googling ingredients) be a bit speedier than usual.

I really like Tam Beauty, which is the umbrella brand for Freedom, Makeup Revolution, Makeup Obsession and Katie Price to name a few. (I’ve reviewed a few bits before- Freedom Exotic Dolls Palette and the Katie Price Wunderbrow dupe) They’re based in Britain and produce fast fun cruelty free makeup at a good affordable price point. You’ll find them in Superdrug and I always head there when I’m looking for something to cheer me up or for a pressie.

Makeup Revolution SophX Eyeshadow Palette Review

The first Makeup Revolution gem is the collaboration eyeshadow palette- Soph X. I’m reviewing it first as it’s the favourite. The Soph palette is designed by a YouTuber SophDoesNails. I’m not a big watcher of YouTube and wasn’t aware of Soph’s work. I literally picked the palette for the shades in it. But I did watch a few of her videos after trying the palette and fell into a makeup video hole. There’s something so soothing about watching someone else do makeup.

SophDoesNails is young, so I’m probably not her target market, I enjoyed the videos nevertheless and the palette is fab.

The packaging is pretty, the palette comes in a card box with gold details. The palette is a matte peachy colour with rose gold lettering, it’s nice and slimline and portable with a good sized mirror in the lid (we don’t like tiny weeny mean little mirrors). There are 24 pans in all- 14 matte and 10 shimmer.

You can see from the swatches that some of the matte shades don’t swatch as intensely as the shimmers which is typical, but they show up fine on the lid.

There is a tiny bit of powdery fallout but less than some of the much more expensive eyeshadows I own. As long as you use an eyeshadow primer the powders blend fine. I use Collection Lasting Finish or Urban Decay Eyeshadow Potion if I’m feeling fancy.

The lasting power is spot on, still visible after several hours on my oily lids.

Makeup Revolution SophX Eyeshadow Palette Swatches

I’ve been using this palette on a daily basis since I got it. It has a lovely mix of neutrals and colours. I like a bright shimmery palette, but let’s face it, in day to day life the average person is mainly going to be using sensible neutrals. My Urban Decay Heat and Vice XX palettes are beautiful, but they don’t often see the light of day because the the colours are outré.

Here are the swatches-

Third Row-

  • Cloudberry- light matte orange

Fourth Row-

  • Strawberry sweets- matte strawberry pink
  • Festive flame- metallic shimmery pink/copper
  • Copper coin- metallic shimmery orange/copper
  • Mugcake- dark neutral matte brown
  • Rosewood- dark grey pink matte
  • Nightmare- matte black

You can make any number of looks with this palette. I’ve been enjoying covering the whole eye area with Rosewood and patting Pinetree or Petrol onto the middle lid and highlighting the inner corner with Fairy lights. There is such a lovely range of shades and I particularly enjoy all the matte neutral shades which are really handy for daily use. The some of the shimmers are dense with glitter particles and I think they’d be really nice applied damp like a foil.

Here’s my attempt, sorry I’m not much of an eyeshadow model, my hooded eyelids have stunted my eye model career. I used Penguin as a base, Iced coffee and Mugcake all over the lids and blended up, Sparks fly on the lid and Fairy lights in the inner corner. Lashings of my fave eyeliner pencil- Kiko Long Lasting Intense Colour in 06 and Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara.

Soph suggested in her video that you could use a few of the mattes as Brow shades. Pug could work if you have fair/dark blonde hair, Mugcake for those with brown hair. You could even try them as contour shades, though it might be tricky getting it on a big enough brush.

Makeup Revolution SophX Eyeshadow Palette Review

The shade range of the Makeup Revolution Soph palette is so good, it would suit any eyeshadow mood I could possibly be in. The shadows are good quality for the price- £10, they give my more expensive palettes a run for their money. A definite must buy.

The Makeup Revolution Soph X Ultra Eyeshadow Palette is available for £10 from Makeup Revolution (they are out of stock at the moment, I’m sure they’ll be back soon). There’s also a highlighter palette that looks like great value for money.
