Liquid Eyeliner-the Scoop

Liquid Eyeliners on sale on the High Street- my reviews

img_1529Here’s my review of high street liquid eyeliners on the market at the moment. I’ve been doing my liquid eyeliner homework ladies, so you don’t have to. I have already found my holy grail eyeliner pencil Kiko Longlasting Eyeliner, there my work is done, so a liquid  eyeliner crusade has been taking place. Allow me to fill you in.

I was cautious for a long time about liquid eyeliner, it takes steady nerves to apply nicely and quickly. I didn’t feel up to the job. I had a go at it again recently and really like the way it makes me look awake. This wide eyed effect also lasts all day (with the right liner), there is less of that end of the day smudginess you get with pencil. I’ve had some comments off people about how good I look since wearing liquid eyeliner, and that has spurred me on.

The-best-liquid-eyeliner-review-uk So! We need the right product. Initially I bought Revlon Colourstay Liquid Eyeliner, just because it was on offer, really. It was fine, nothing to complain about, but I’m after something special. It didn’t have mega staying power, if I absent mindedly swiped my eye, eyeliner was sent all akimbo. Revlon Colourstay liquid eyeliner is a solid B-.

I’ve tried gel liner before (comes in a little pot and you use a brush to apply) and found it great for resilience and control of application. You can use your own nice slanted brush and it lasts. On the other hand, I cannot be dealing with going back and forth with the brush, carefully ensuring there is the correct amount of gel, repeatedly. I ain’t got time for that.

The-best-liquid-eyeliner-review-ukNext on my crusade I went on recommendations, Collection eyeliner came highly recommended. It’s cheap and cheerful. They do a pen and a dip brush. I bought the “Extreme” pen and I found after a couple of uses the colour was getting thin. It was though the pen was running out. I had to go over it a few times. That has been the way with eyeliner pens I’ve used in the past and that has put me off using them even though they seem like a good idea.

I didn’t like the look of the Collection dip brush, it’s very firm and squat, when I tried it on my hand it rubbed off easily. So I didn’t splash the cash there. Collection-the verdict: I would say give it a go, it’s only £3 and lots of wise makeup people swear by it. I wasn’t won over.

The-best-liquid-eyeliner-review-uk MAC liquifast is the daddy of liquid eyeliners. When it’s on and dried it’s not going anywhere. You could cry a river, run a marathon, fight a fire and your liner would stay on point. That is almost it’s downfall, you have to be so steady in its application, one foul move and you’ve got a hell of a mess that you can’t correct with any ease.  MAC liquifast verdict– only for the steady of hand.

Bourjois clubbing Liquid Eyeliner – I have love for Bourjois clubbing, I’m very fond of Bourjois Clubbing Mascara so I tried to love it. I had no problem with the pigment (black!) finish (slightly glossy) or staying power (all day, no worries). But I didn’t like the brush, it’s a bit stumpy and overly flexible. I kept making mistakes. When it dried I felt like my eyes have glue on them. Bourjois Clubbing liquid liner- slightly wide of the mark.

L’Oreal Superliner in Black Lacquer is my recommendation for liquid eyeliner. It has been approved by many beauty bloggers, which led me to its door. It has a sort of flexible spongy nib rather than a brush, this means it stays in shape. You don’t have to fiddle about to get the right amount of liquid. It’s a lovely glossy black and it will not budge for love nor money. It doesn’t flake or smudge. It looks crisp after a day’s wear.

For ease of application, resilience, pigment, price L’Oreal SuperLiner gets a big thumbs up.
Liquid Eyeliner is a tricky one, if you can get a technique down it makes for a lovely defined eye which lasts the day.

I think I’ve found the best liquid eyeliner for me, what’s your favourite? X

      1. Yes in the UK it’s easier to buy them online. The Beauty Bay.co.uk sell some of the Gerard Cosmetics products. Or if you follow them on Instagram they are always having crazy sales on their website. Great brand!! X

  1. Benefit they’re real gel eyeliner pen is a good one for quick application although I found it a little tricky to get right to the lash line on my left eye, probably just me. It does however stay all day and more often than not if I haven’t taken it off i’ll wake up with the perfect “smokey” lined eye the next morning ! 😁. I am still trying to find the one though. I have fallen out of love with Benefit at the moment after finding out that some of their products are still tested on animals. Thinking about trying some of the kat von d stuff for sephora or a liquid from illamasqua ( tried the gel, it’s great but the pot dries out quickly).

    1. Tested on animals? That’s no good.
I saw the benefit liner in store I thought it looked a bit fiddly. I’ve heard Urban Decay 24/7 is good too. I’ve wasted far too much money on this quest already! X
