My husband has recently commented that my makeup looks heavy. What a cheek! He has a point though. I usually wear a full face of foundation to cover blemishes, acne scars and pigmentation. I feel I need a full face otherwise I don’t get the blemish free look I’m after. It looks a bit much though apparently. Fair play to blokey he doesn’t mind a bit of makeup chat, I trust him to tell me when something is off.
I need to hide these patches and red bits though-
It’s not that bad. I know things could be a lot worse, don’t get me wrong, but I can use a bit of slap. How do you get a perfect and natural face? If a product looks good on models that doesn’t mean anything. I’m old and spotty, models are 16 and genetically blessed.
Vichy Dermablend Corrective Foundation
I heard of this foundation first when watching a Lisa Eldridge Video. This foundation is all about coverage, you should be able to use a lot less product to get the flawless effect. Even though it comes with spf 35, I would still wear a dedicated sun cream (check out my Post about this). It promises 16 hours of wear, but this is only when worn with their Dermablend setting powder.
I was colour matched with shade Opal 15, the second to lightest of the 8 shades they do.
I feel this is a good match for me. I’ve heard it’s tricky to get the shade right with Vichy Dermablend. The next shade up, Nude, did seem pretty orange. It might be a case of buying 2 shades and mixing for some, which is a bit of a pain. Luckily Opal is good on me. The texture is thinner than you would imagine for such full coverage.
I only wanted a thin layer of Dermablend so I applied a small amount with a damp blending sponge. The coverage is impressive. It has a slight sheen so it looks very natural. Here’s how well it covers the most pigmented area of skin-
And it manages to do it without looking cakey. I didn’t feel like I had to use any concealer with it, I just concentrated my efforts on the discolourated areas.
I did have to powder my nose halfway through the day. I’ve never had a foundation last all day, that’s unheard of for me. I’m not convinced by the claim of 16hrs of wear, certainly not for my skin type.
What I love about Vichy Dermablend (make sure you get the Vichy one, apparently the plain Dermablend is cake mix) is the natural finish. It contains mineral rich thermal spa water and is suitable for even the most sensitive and acneic skin.
Vichy also do a 3D matte foundation for acne prone skin, concealer sticks, powder foundation and body foundation. Their body foundation has been famously used in an advert where they covered this heavily tattooed gentleman with it-
Overview of Vichy Dermablend
Pros
- Spf 35
- Great coverage and a natural finish
- Good for sensitive and spot prone skin
- Even though it’s £18 it’s going to last, you don’t need much
Cons
- So so shade selection
- Doesn’t last all day on my oil face
Happily I think I’ve found a foundation that suits my needs I will surely be buying this again.
