My Charlotte Tilbury Collection-The Hits and Misses

A “Shop the Stash” Review and Swatches of my Charlotte Tilbury makeup including the Colour Chameleon sticks, Beach Stick, Dolce Vita and Vintage Vamp palettes, Wonder Glow Highlighter and Magic Foundation.

It occurred to me that I was amassing a moderate collection of Charlotte Tilbury makeup.  I get asked about Charlotte Tilbury stuff reasonably often so I thought I would present the whole lot for your enjoyment. The packaging is so beautiful, it’s a joy to photograph. Mmm. Pretty.

Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow Liquid Highlighter

I have already reviewed Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow “instant soft focus beauty balm” so I won’t bang on. It costs £38.50 and I don’t think it’s worth the money. The effect it gives is pretty subtle (by which I mean invisible) considering how expensive it is. Wonder Glow is meant to have skincare effects but I haven’t noticed any lasting difference after using, just a slight shimmer. I don’t think I would recommend purchasing Wonder Glow, it’s too expensive.

Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick in Es Vedra

I love my Beach Stick. It’s a great bright coral colour with a very slight gold shimmer. The colour is intense but it blends lovely, even though it’s strong when you first apply it you can sheer it out by rubbing with fingers. It has a pleasant feeling powdery dry texture and blends to a matte finish.

Here are the swatches of the cream and liquid formulas-

The swatch really shows the vibrancy of the coral.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation

Another one that I have already reviewed, Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation. I do like Magic Foundation, it gives good coverage and a matte finish. It’s light and comfortable to wear. Unfortunately, for some reason Magic is attracted to dry spots and can highlight any flaky skin rather than camouflaging it. On normal or oily skin Magic Foundation gives a natural matte cover and definitely doesn’t cause break outs. It definitely needs a primer before hand though.

Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon Eyeshadow Pencils

I have these in Amber Haze and Black Diamonds. Eyeshadow pencils are a really handy way to get your eye makeup done quickly. Just draw on approximately where you want it and blend with a finger. Charlotte Tilbury has designed the Colour Chameleon pencils to compliment different eye colours for ease of shade selection. Amber haze suits brown eyes and Black Diamonds is for blue eyes. (I have brown eyes, my husband bought them for me, go figure!).

Amber Haze is really nice and wearable. The finish is a metallic bronze. The sheen is really bright, it’s hard to explain but if I put it next to something like Maybelline Colour Tattoo, you can see how much brighter it is. Apparently Colour Chameleon pencils are infused with synthetic sapphire, that could be why they’re so dazzling. Black Diamonds is blue glitter in a black base, its less versatile than Amber Haze but I still use it regularly as a base for powder eyeshadow to make the colour pop.

Colour Chameleon lasts well for several hours, is soft and pigmented, but I have issues. You need a special Charlotte Tilbury pencil sharpener to sharpen the pencils, which you need to do regularly. The pencils are expensive at £19, you wouldn’t expect that you would have to shell out another £5 for a sharpener. But you do, it’s a bit tight in my view. Also the lids aren’t very secure and can pop off in transit, which isn’t ideal.

Charlotte Tilbury Colour Coded Eyeshadow Palettes in Vintage Vamp and Dolce Vita

I think Charlotte Tilbury Colour Coded Eye Quads are the best thing she does. You get 4 shades in a quality compact with a mirror. The shadows are designed to be worn together to create a specific look that you can pare down for day time or smoke out for night. There is a highlighting prime shade, an enhancing body shade, a dark smoke shade and a glittery pop shade.

I have two Charlotte Tilbury quads- Dolce Vita and Vintage Vamp.

Dolce Vita is comprised of-

  •  A champagne shimmer prime shade
  • A deep rust body shade
  • A dark gold with glitter particles to press onto the lid to make it “pop”
  • A warm brown smoke shade

Vintage Vamp is pretty similar to Dolce Vita but tends more towards red.

  • The prime shade is a pink shimmer
  • The enhance shade is a warm burgundy
  • The smoke shade is a darker, less warm burgundy
  • The pop shade is a glittery gold

Both these eyeshadow quads are excellent. The shadows are easy to apply and blend. The colours work really well together. I like both Dolce Vita and Vintage Vamp the same amount. They somehow just make my eyes look amazing, all smouldery. The shadows last really well, even when I forget eye primer.

Dolce Vita and Vintage Vamp Colour Coded Eyeshadow Quads RRP- £38 9/10 (I would give 10/10, but they’re quite small for the price)

Charlotte Tilbury concentrates on making makeup that’s easy to apply and coordinate. The packaging is beautiful and the makeup is largely excellent. It is pretty pricey in my view but you get a lovely product. If you’re thinking of trying something from Charlotte Tilbury, go for an eyeshadow quad, they’re amazing.
