Makeup Revolution Liquid Highlighter Review
Review and Swatches of Makeup Revolution’s CoverFx Enhancer Drops dupe, Liquid Highlighter.
This week’s post is a double B side (some of you may be too young to catch that reference, it’s about records). The A side was last week’s beaut- Makeup Revolution Soph palette. A palette that is lovely both inside and out and is pocket friendly too. In fact all Makeup Revolution and indeed Tam beauty as a whole can be relied upon to produce nicely packaged affordable makeup.
Another feature of Makeup Revolution and I Heart Makeup is it’s dupes. As in, they create similar looking versions of a more expensive product. Great for those who love a bargain, but can also seem a little copycat. Some people are dead against the practice of making dupes, but it’s a way of selling makeup so it makes sense.
You get 12mls for £6 from Superdrug or Makeup Revolution. It comes in 7 shades- Rose Gold, Lustre Gold, Bronze Gold, Luminous Gold, Champagne, Unicorn Elixir and the shade I have Liquid Starlight. They are vegan, cruelty free and gluten free.
The ingredients list is as follows- Isododecane, Mica, Cyclopentasiloxane, Caprylyl Dimethicone Ethoxy Glucoside, Polybutene, Hydrogenated Styrene/Isoprene Copolymer, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Propylparaben, BHT May Contain [+/- CI 77891, CI 77491]. (Note that Makeup Revolution Liquid Highlighter is not paraben free.)
This Liquid Highlighter by Makeup Revolution is good dupe for the Cover Fx Enhancer drops. The packaging is similar and so are the swatches. I’m not going to spend the £34 to see if the texture and wear is the same, sorry. Other reviewers have said that there’s hardly a difference between the two products.
Makeup Revolution Liquid Highlighter Review and Swatches
The packaging is a very attractive pink gold dropper bottle, which work well with the consistency of the product. The liquid is quite runny and you only need the tiniest drop.
The glow off the Makeup Revolution Liquid Highlighter is intense. It gives more of a metallic sheen than a glitter effect. It’s a way more full on than say Benefit Moon Beam/High Beam. You just need the tiniest drop and it covers a large area. Here are the swatches-
I only used the tiniest drop on the back of my hand and it glowed for hours. The shimmer has a light pink/white shade, which would work best on fair skin.
Makeup Revolution lists a variety of way in which one can use Liquid Highlighter- on its own, mixed with skincare, mixed with foundation, mixed with primer. My automatic urge was to use it like I normally use highlighter- on top of my foundation. This was a bit tricky as it tended to move the foundation and it pilled.
As a primer step the liquid highlighter works better but might get lost if you’re using heavy coverage foundation. I tried it with a silicone based primer and it pilled, so that didn’t work. It was fine blended with my moisturiser. Also, you could totally blend it with a liquid lipstick or eyeshadow for a bit of extra shimmer.
Makeup Revolution Liquid Highlighter- Is It Any Good?
I think Makeup Revolution Liquid Highlighter is best used as an illuminating base for a light foundation or B.B. Cream. Or alone with concealer where necessary. I couldn’t really get it to work over foundation or mixed with primer. If you’re sparing with Liquid Starlight and manage to get to grips with it’s application, it’s a versatile product and is so very pretty.
Makeup Revolution Highlighter in Liquid Starlight would be good for
- People with fair skin after a bold glow (if you don’t have fair skin check out the other shades)
- People who like pretty things and bargains
- Those who want to try Cover Fx Enhancer drops but don’t want to spend the £34
I’d love to swatch the other shades Unicorn Elixir particularly, it has a blue iridescence, sounds pretty.
Makeup Revolution Liquid Starlight Highlighter is available from Makeup Revolution (This was a pr sample FYI, the links are always going to be affiliate so I can make a couple of quid to buy more products to try. The makeup brushes pictured are Makeup Obsession Marble Contour and Light Set)
