Review of Maybelline Tattoo Brow peel off semi permanent brow tint. Brow makeup that could last up to 3 days. A gimmick or a godsend? I’m about to find out. 

I’m all about the big brows these days. The bigger the better. This is in harsh contrast to my brow philosophy of 10 years ago. Unfortunately my pluck happy ways have left me with areas of brow that will no longer grow at all. You can see full evidence of these atrocities in my brow regrowth post. I almost feel nauseous looking at my old eyebrows, my face looks like a boiled egg.

Filling in patchy brows can be a chore. It’s not something that can be done in a rush. The concept of makeup that lasts for a full 3 days is very appealing as a time saver.

Maybelline Tattoo Peel Off Brow Tint is £12.99 for 4.6g from Superdrug.com and it’s made in Korea (which for some reason makes it all the more appealing to me). It comes in 3 shades- light brown, medium brown and dark brown. I have medium brown to show you.

Maybelline Tattoo Brow Tint Review

The Tattoo gel comes in a tube with a brush applicator. The brush is rather thick, so you may wish to use a slimmer, more precise brush. The box gives full instructions on how to use the gel.

The way it works- you paint your clean brows into the shape you want them with the gel, then you leave it on to do it’s work until you decide to peel it off. How long you leave it on dictates how dark the tint goes and how long it lasts.

The ingredients go- AQUA / WATER, ALCOHOL DENAT., POLYVINYL ALCOHOL, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, DIHYDROXYACETONE, CETETH-20, PENTYLENE GLYCOL, 1,2-HEXANEDIOL, LAURETH-25, CITRIC ACID, GLYCERIN, DISODIUM EDTA, SODIUM CITRATE, CAFFEINE, SODIUM HYALURONATE, ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF JUICE, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, ROYAL JELLY EXTRACT, PHENOXYETHANOL, SOLUBLE COLLAGEN, POTASSIUM SORBATE, TRISODIUM EDTA, SODIUM BENZOATE, [+/- MAY CONTAINCI 19140 / YELLOW 5, CI 17200 / RED 33, CI 42090 / BLUE 1, ] (F.I.L. It actually contains some brow conditioning ingredients- Aloe Vera, Sodium Hyaluronate, Royal jelly Extract, Soluble Collagen and growth stimulating Caffeine. I was pleased and suprised to find some nice beneficial ingredients in there.

The gel is quite gloopy, so it’s easy to apply, you just paint it on. My brows are pretty thick to begin with, apart from the areas it just refuses to regrow. I needed to use my Anastasia Beverly Hills no 12 brow brush to help distribute the gel evenly.

When the brow tint is where you want it to be, it’s up to you how long you leave it on.

It needs to be on for at least 20 minutes. According to Maybelline, if you take it off after 20 mins it will last a day, if you leave it on overnight you could get three days wear out of it.

Once you’re happy you’ve achieved the brow intensity you’re after, you simply peel the gel off to reveal long lasting, fuss free brows that won’t budge. I found that it comes off really easily, you can either pick the dried gel off or rinse. The gel stains the skin to give a filled in look and won’t rub or wash off.

There is an appreciable tint to the skin even after a couple of days of wearing.

I quite liked having my black shiny eyebrows. After peeling off the next morning-

It looked ok. Maybelline Tattoo Brow Tint in Medium Brown has a slightly warm, orangey brown colour. Over the days after applying it wore down to a yellow colour. By day three my brows the only evidence of Tattoo Brow was a yellow tinge which I had to cover with my normal makeup.

My brows are thick and black but patchy. So, with my brow makeup, I’m trying to replace the hairs that won’t regrow. Tattoo Brow Tint didn’t exactly perform in the way I need it to. It doesn’t keep my brows looking filled in for very long. This might be more suitable for people who want to make their brows look darker.

Maybelline Tattoo Brow Tint- Does It Work?

It’s not going to replace my current brow makeup in all honesty.  My eyebrow hairs are nearly black, I don’t know what compelled me to buy medium brown instead of dark brown. It could be that I bought the wrong shade but it looks yellow on me.

Maybelline Tattoo Brow Gel is a little gimmicky, I like that it has brow conditioning ingredients. It was a bit of a laugh having shiny peel off eyebrows but it doesn’t really work for my needs.
