1960’s Halloween Cat Makeup Tutorial

How do do 1960’s inspired halloween cat makeup- tutorial and product list.Halloween Cat Makeup Tutorial

Boots contacted me to be  a part of their Feline Fierce campaign and as excited as i felt to be contacted by such a big brand, I was nervous in equal measure. After all, I’m knocking on the back door of 40 years of age, my skin is crap, I’m not an makeup artist or a model. Do I have any right to be dolling myself up like a sexy cat? No probably not, but here I am. I really enjoyed it too, there is nothing more fun than spending an hour or two playing with makeup. I have to let you, good reader, know that this is a sponsored post by Boots, but seeing as it’s a makeup look rather than a review I’m content wth the ethics and excited to work with my favourite shop.

I wanted to find a more womanly stylish take on the sexy halloween cat schtick, and what is more womanly and sexy than Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra and Sophia Loren in the 1960s. Boots sent me a selection of makeup to create my cat inspired look and there were some stunning blue shades in the Nyx Ultimate Eyeshadow palette in Brights that really leapt out at me.Nyx Ultimate Brights Blue Shades

Here’s how I created my cat inspired Halloween makeup with all the fab products I used from Boots-

First thing, I did my base as I usually do- brows first, natch, then concealer over the lids and to define the eyes. Sometimes I do foundation after eyes, in case there is fall out, but for the purposes of not looking bogging in the pictures this time I did foundation first. for brows I used Soap and Glory Archery Brow Tint and Precision Pencil.

Next step for me was lashes, fake lashes are an anxiety trigger for me. I love the way they look but putting them on sends me nuts. I think Instagram is to blame, some people make it look so easy. I always glue them to my fingertips. I managed today to get them on by Vaseline-ing my fingertips and squeezing them into place until the glue bonded. So not Instagram-y. The lashes are Ardell Faux Mink 811.

The lipstick is Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipstick in 101 which I thought would work really well with a 60s inspired look.

Next bit is the eyeshadow. Like I said, there’s a matte azure blue in the Nyx Ultimate Brights Palette that I’m extremely chuffed with, and I really went for it. I pretty much just used my fingertip to press the powder onto my lid to get a really strong colour density. Then I got a bit of concealer on my It Cosmetics Concealer Brush and took it around the edges of the blue eyeshadow to neaten it up.

Next step was eyeliner pencil- I used the Collection Cosmetics Precision Kohl Eyeliner in White and the Maybelline New York Color Show in Black. The white pencil went on the lower waterline and some generous black pencil under the lower lashes, a la Sophia Loren.

Next came liquid eyeliner. This really brought the look together and made the eye more cat like. Liquid liner always ends up bigger than I intend it to look so it was a nice change to have to do a more costume look and go wide with it. You can see from the picture above where I’m using the concealer brush to clean around the edges.

I used Nyx Matte Liquid Liner for the eyes and also for the cat’s nose and philtrum. I could not get a straight line from the nose to the lips, so I printed it on by painting liquid liner onto the side of my tweezers and printing it on. The Nyx Matte liner is my liquid liner of choice, it’s easy (as easy as liquid liner can be) to use and lasts really well.

I did a pink blush with CYO Blush in Screamer. It’s really pigmented so I dusted it off thoroughly before circling over the apples of my cheeks. I popped on a few fake freckles with the Soap and Glory Archery Brow Tint and Precision Pencil. I did a pink blush with CYO Blush in Unfiltered. It’s really pigmented so I dusted it off thoroughly before circling over the apples of my cheeks. I popped on a few fake freckles with the Soap and Glory Archery Brow Tint and Precision Pencil. Archery is a really nice brow product- it has a triangular pencil at one end and a light taupe marker at the other, it’s really handy.

A 1960s look is heavy on the black eyeliner and lashes and it’s totally a way to make the classic halloween cat look more stylish and lady like. I beefed up my lower lashes by drawing some liquid liner to form little fake lower lashes. The whole effect is wide eyed and retro, I love it.
